Entries for July, 2011

I turned three years old at work last Thursday (July 7). I know. Wow. Time sure flies fast. Now I must prepare myself for the annual evaluation.

The Harry Potter series was never really what you would put under the romance category but the last movie installment portrayed love that surely beats what those belonging to the romance genre would have to develop in the entire series.

I saw the second part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Friday and I liked it.  In particular, I liked how the film showed that Severus Snape was not exactly a bad guy as what I (and I guess even other readers) was made to believe at the earlier part of the series. The dude has a soft side and can actually be emotional.

The scene where in Snape's true feelings and intentions are revealed through the pensieve just took a few minutes but it told a love story and showed what love is about, sacrificing and doing what it takes for the person you love even with nothing expected in return. He loved Harry's mom and he tried to protect her even when she chose to be with someone else. He also cared for her son and saved him from danger, when he can, although in secret.

Snape's love story was also not the only one of its kind in the film. Hermione and Ron also had their moments. I have always wanted them to end up with each other anyway. There was less bickering  between the two in the last installment though and I kind of missed that because such scenes are funny.

As for the Harry-Ginny couple, I never really thought they would hit it off. Some would disagree, but I never really saw anything special going on between them as I was reading the book and as  I was watching the previous films. In the last movie, I felt that the Harry-Ginny couple still lacked the necessary build-up. It did not really seem like they liked each other. I guess, for me, Ginny still just seems like a sister to Harry.

Other striking parts of the film for me were Snape's duel with McGonagall and the aftermath of the clash between the death eaters and students and professors at Hogwarts. Seeing the dead bodies on the ground and the school in ruins made me feel really really sad though.

If my memory serves me right, I saw him for the first time on MTV in my first year in High School. He was hot  then and while he seemed to appear gaunt in the last TV interview I saw, he looked almost exactly the same with the  guy I first saw when I was 14

I went to the Incubus concert with Monette and Aira at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday. It was Incubus' third time to be in Manila, according to earlier reports, but it was the first time I went to see Brandon and pals perform. The place was packed. We had no seats and decided to sit on the steps while waiting for the show to start. There were so many people and if I was part of the band, I'd feel elated to see a place full of people waiting for me. The moment the band played Megalomaniac, I understood right away why so many people wanted to see them. They were great live. I loved Brandon's voice and moves. He did not seem like he aged.

The band performed around 20 songs which included my favorite, Wish You Were Here.  I am so glad they played that. Overall, I thought the money I spent for my ticket was totally worth it. It is just too bad I did not bring a camera to take pictures or videos. It would be nice to watch the videos and stare and listen to Brandon.

In case you were wondering if he took his shirt off, he did not, but it did not stop him from looking hot.
