Entries for January, 2012

Happy 2012!

And the first day of the year is full of surprises as the Sex God (SG) aka Siwon  who happens to be one of my favorite Super Junior members, tweeted this earlier in the afternoon:

@siwon407 SiwonChoi
On my way to the airport now going to MANILA! A new year new night in the MANILA PHILIPINES ! Yoohoo!

I was totally clueless and I was not the only one because all of a sudden, all the other fans were tweeting and asking why he was coming to Manila. It kind of reminded me of Where's Fluffy? in Nick and Norah's.
Much later, there were tweets that he was coming here to film a CF. Much, much later, there were tweets that Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk are on their way to Manila as well.
Just a few minutes ago, the SG arrived. Fans who went to the airport to welcome him said via twitter that they spotted Kyuhyun there as well and that both members are here to endorse a clothing label.
I am not sure how long they will be here and if Kyuhyun is here too, but I really want to see him or them. Will be in touch with my  fangirl friends to make plans. I hope there will be an opportunity to see them. I also hope that through this visit, Happee Sy will be convinced that bringing the entire group for SS4 totally makes sense because sooo many fans are more than willing to see them again.

Yesterday reminded me so much of Nick and Norah's search for rock band Where's Fluffy. Like Nick and Norah who were looking for  where the rock band was performing, I wanted to find Siwon, Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk, three of the Super Junior members who were in Manila to film a full commercial.

Nick and Norah had to rely on clues written on the door of the cubicle in the lavatory. My friend Monette and I as well as other Super Junior fans, meanwhile had to rely on Siwon's tweets since everyone had no clue on their whereabouts.

Monette and I took part in the search for the boys in the evening since we had work earlier. (Yes, we're old and have to go to work.) We met up with another friend of hers, and other girls at 7 pm. Earlier in the day though, I was monitoring Siwon's tweets.

The first clue he gave yesterday was a photo of the view from his hotel window. Based on what I was getting from tweets of other fans, the boys were staying in Edsa Shang. I was not convinced though because Siwon's picture suggested otherwise.

good morning beautiful world. first day in philipines. Its so beautiful sunrise. It will be lovely day. God bless!

At around 10 am, Siwon gave the second clue.

Now We are at Orchard Road Metro Manila‎ Quezon City.

We were in the same city and I could have gone there, but I had to go work, so all I could do was to send text messages to Monette to plan where we would meet after 5.

The boys did not stay in Quezon City that long for at around lunchtime, Siwon posted a photo of fans waiting for them in the Diosdado Macapagal Avenue area.

By the time I was on my way to meet Monette, there were no more tweets from Siwon, which meant we weren't really sure where we should go to find them. I wanted to ask other fans, but there was no one to ask. I wasn't part of any of the fan clubs who usually get the info first.

I arrived at the Shangrila Mall to meet Monette at 7 pm.  She told me that a friend of hers who happens to be part of fan group SJWorld, was going to meet us as well.  I did not mind at all, because, well, there is strength in numbers. And besides, since she's part of a fan group, then she might have info outsiders like Monette and I did not know.

Monette's friend, Frances arrived after like 30 minutes. She came with another SJWorld member and she said, two others were going to meet us too.

Frances, Monette and I were of the same age so I thought it was cool because sometimes I get the feeling that I may be too old for this. All the other girls were younger than us with their ages ranging from 16 to 21.

We decided to check the Edsa Shang Hotel since most fans were saying they were staying there. We went in and saw there weren't too many fans. Apart from us, there were only two other groups of girls who looked like they were looking for SuJu members too. We decided to sit there and wait. I was even planning to order a drink, until one of the girls said that she got a text message saying Siwon, Kyuhyun and Eunhyuk were not staying there. We went outside of the hotel to discuss where we were going next and while we were doing that, we met fourteen-year old Danielle, who told her parents she was just going to Alabang Town Center even if she was really going to Edsa Shang to check if the boys are there.

Danielle had no mobile phone. She also had to be home by 11 pm and she lives in the Southern area of Metro Manila. It was already 9:30 pm at that time. We told her she had to go home but she said, she wanted to be with us, to be wherever we were going to find the SuJu boys. The entire time we were convincing her to go home, all I could think of was, wow! How can someone as young as her do that?

Apart from Danielle, we also met a mom with her teenage daughter waiting to see the boys. The mom, like her daughter, was  a huge fan of Super Junior. I am not kidding. She was even wearing the ballers. And she told us she kept checking Siwon's twitter to get leads. Amazing how Super Junior can also appeal to an older age group. Anyway,  we told the mom we were planning to go to Makati to check if the boys are there since the building in Siwon's photo looks like a hotel in that city. She seemed convinced that the boys were in Edsa Shang though. We asked for her number so that we can text her if we get other hints but she declined to give it. I get it. We are still strangers after all.

When we arrived in Makati, we ran into  other Super Junior fans who said they just left Fraser's Place. They said it looked like they were headed for the airport because they saw bags being carried into the bus.

Just as we were trying to decide what to do next, Siwon gives another clue.

siwon407 SiwonChoi

it was really good time with you philipines. Im so proud of you all and very appriciate for your love and passion.

And then, he replies to a tweet of a fan.

siwon407 SiwonChoi
dont be! It was awesome! proud of you all! “@hellapetal__: @siwon407 Sorry if we made your CF shooting cancelled

After reading that, we were convinced the boys were bound for Korea and so we decided to go to the airport. It was already 10:30 pm and I couldn't believe I was actually still willing to look for them. Monette and I were both asking each other from time to time why we were doing what we're doing. The airport is really far from where we live, but we were still going there just to see the boys.

At the airport, one of our companions gets a text message saying the boys were spotted inside the terminal. We were late and so unlike Nick and Norah who found Where's Fluffy, we didn't get to see the boys at all.

On the way home, Monette told me that she was never going to do this again. I totally understand. We exerted effort but didn't achieve the goal. She said she would prefer going to organized events like concerts or fan meetings only next time and that following them to every location they go to would no longer be part of the agenda. I agree with that. Going to concerts of course are more convenient. But yesterday, I just felt like I had to go see them, to show them that so many people want them to perform here again because the possibility of that happening seemed nil. The Philippines is not part of the Super Show 4 tour  based on the schedule released so far and the producer of the previous Super Shows held here has not indicated any plan of bringing them here for another show.

What a day. One day, I will probably laugh at what I did yesterday, will think it was crazy or even forget about it. Any of that can happen tomorrow or sometime in the future. For now though, like all other Filipino fans, what I can do is cross my fingers and hope  the  management and producer would reconsider the Philippines as part of the tour.

Just heard the sad news that there will be no Super Show 4 in Manila this year. Happee Sy of Pulp Productions said so, which means, I will have to fly somewhere to see Super Junior.

Ok. Must hide my face under a brown bag.

My friends who know about my plan to watch them again don't understand why this should be a pressing concern when I've already seen them twice.  My usual response is, well, Super Show 4 will be different  from the previous shows  because they will be singing new songs. Apart from that, the stage will be different. It is not just the members who will be moving from one place to another, but the stage will likewise be doing the same. And instead of just fireworks, there will be mini fountains.

More than that, Leeteuk, the leader of the group, is slated to enter the army this year for the mandatory service, which means, this will be my last chance to see him. He is not my favorite member, but still, I would like to see him perform with the rest of the group before he leaves.

The options which are available for me so far are: Taiwan and Singapore. Tickets for the three-night show in Taiwan were sold out in 17 minutes (I know right, can you believe it?), but due to popular demand,  another show was added, which is set on February 2. The drawback though is, I would need a visa to go there.

The Singapore show is on February 18. Tickets are not on sale yet and I am worried that it might sell like hotcakes too  since you don't need a visa to go there. I am very certain that fans in countries that are not part of the tour are considering watching the show there too.

Singapore seems to be the easier option at this point. I still need to know how to get the concert tickets though. Any ideas? Would really appreciate it.
