Entries for November, 2012

I am not his biggest fan but I liked his movie 17 Again. My favorite part was when he arrived in school wearing aviator sunglasses, a leather jacket over a plain white shirt and jeans. As he was walking, every girl was just looking at him.  I'm sure I would have watched him too if I had been in the same scene.

Zac was in Manila last September for a fan conference organized by local clothing brand Penshoppe and I was there to witness it. I got free passes from my friend Belle, who also gave me free tix to Mario Maurer's fan event last year. Our seats were on the Upper Box so we didn't really see him up-close but the SM Arena had a big screen so we kept on looking at that most of the time.

The Arena was packed with so many girls and almost all of those who got a chance to give a message to Zac wanted the same thing,  to get a hug. Zac said he'd meet them backstage after the event. I don't know if he did meet them though after the show. I hope he did or  that would have meant tiny hearts breaking everywhere.

Long before I immersed myself into K-pop,  I was very much into a band called The Click Five. Their songs are still on my Ipod although those tracks aren't exactly what you would find on my Top 25 Most Played playlist now. It's not that I don't like them anymore. I just stopped giving the same amount of attention I used to have for the band since there wasn't much going on with them after their Modern Minds and Past Times album.

Back when the band was conducting promotions for that album, they visited Manila. I did not only get to see them live but I also had a chance to have my picture taken with them, had them sign my CD, got to shake their hands and the best part, got a hug from the lead singer, my crush, Kyle Patrick. It was what I considered the ultimate fangirl experience and while I have been supporting Super Junior for three years now, I have never had any encounter with the K-pop idols that comes close to that ultimate experience. A new record may have been set though after what happened  two weeks ago (or October 24 to be exact).

My best friend Mika, who is a huge fan of Big Bang, has been planning to watch the group's show here with me. We initially wanted to get the best seats at the Arena but since we found the tix pricey, we decided to just buy Upper Box tickets which cost about P3700 each.  Getting those tix means though that we can't see the boys up-close. Not that I was dying to get super close to them since I am more of an ELF (Super Junior fan) than a VIP (Big Bang fan), although a chance to be near them wouldn't be so bad. I was sure that would make Mika very happy too.

Just as we were about to buy our tix, Mika learns from a friend that Samsung is having a contest for Big Bang's show and they're giving away either VIP tix or rehearsal tix. Mika and I joined the contest of course. Thanks to the big guy in the sky and the K-pop fairy, Mika won a pair of rehearsal tix and decided to bring me.

The rehearsal was on the same day as the concert but at an earlier time, of course. The show was to start at 8 p.m., but we were told to be at the Arena by 2 p.m. for the rehearsal. That was a very stressful day for us because I still had to attend a press con for Uniqlo at 11 a.m. at SM North, and while Mika was not going to work that day, we were together, which meant, we both had to run from Quezon City to Pasay City. Not exactly what I would describe to be a short trip if not for the MRT. Anyway, the big guy in the sky and the K-pop fairy may have heard us again because when we arrived at the Arena at 2 p.m., we were told the rehearsal would start at 4. While waiting in line, I wrote my stories due that day and was able to submit them just before the staff let us in for the rehearsal.

Inside the Arena, we were at the VIP3 area and since Mika and I were the 5th and 6th, respectively in the line, we were upfront. The stage was huge. Imagine a capital letter I. When the boys appeared on stage, they were on one side of the letter I, while we were on the other side so they were a bit far but that didn't stop the 149 other lucky fans in there (including Mika) to scream and cheer. After a while, Seungri, Daesung and Taeyang went to the side of stage where we, the fans, were. GD and TOP meanwhile, were left on the other side with their segway.

I wanted TOP to come close to us so that I can see him up-close since I have always thought he is the most attractive in the group. As he was busy, I decided to give my attention to Seungri, Daesung and Taeyang. It wasn't a bad move because they  were all waving and flashing their smiles at us. While singing Bad Boy, Taeyang got off the stage to get even closer to us. He started from the left side of the stage and he was stopping once a while to show his dance moves to the fans. I was just watching him as he was walking and dancing because, well, he's an amazing dancer and then, to my surprise, he stops right in front of me.

Here comes the best part. So I stare at him while he's in front of me and then he starts singing. And while he was singing, he was looking at me, just me. He stays like that until he finishes his part, and then starts moving again. In my mind, I was telling myself that we totally had a moment but at the same time, I was in shock because it was the first time an idol as talented and sought for as he is has looked me in the eyes like that and sang for me. I was sure it wasn't a dream or my imagination because two other fans whom I wasn't friends with told me this:"Ate, I envy you. Kinantahan ka niya. Ang tagal niya sa harapan mo, sa iyo."

We only got to watch them during the rehearsal for like 30 minutes but it made our day. The sad part is we couldn’t take pictures while we were there so all I had was a picture of myself with my rehearsal pass.

I had fun during the show even if we didn’t get the best seats. Since the stage was huge, we still had a decent view. I am also very happy the group performed the songs I like such as Love Song, Fantastic Baby, Lies, Haru Haru and of course, Taeyang’s Wedding Dress.

After the show, Mika told me that we should watch them again, not here in Manila but in Seoul. I am definitely in if my bank account and work schedule would permit. I am not just an ELF now but a VIP too.
