While I was on my way to school this morning, I heard over the radio that some congressman is proposing that carbonated drinks should have a value added tax of 10%. Apart from the need to generate more funds to be able to pay our country's debts, the congressman said that his proposal is justified since carbonated drinks are not good for one's health anyway. So, what do I think about this? I don't think it's a good idea because doing so does not really solve the problem. At the moment, the government is thinking about taxing cigarettes, alcoholic drinks and text messaging. If the added tax on these goods push through, will the government still be able to generate more funds? I don't think so. People have to definitely spend for basic goods and that is what they would pioritize. The demand for these goods will decrease of course since their prices would be higher. Given that scenario, the government won't be able to achieve their goal which is to generate more funds. Sure, cabonated drinks harm our health and so if the government wants to make sure that every citizen of the country is healthy, they might as well ask Coca Cola and the others to stop the production of such drinks. If I were to be asked about how the government will be able to pay the country's debts, I think the best solution would be to use the funds of the pork barrel for the time being instead. After all, these funds only go to the politicians' pockets.
Enough about that. I saw A Cinderella Story last Sunday (Sorry Vero and Christel. I don't mind watching it again.). I liked the film. Not just because Chad Micheal Murray was in it but because it was able to show a prince who was not only charming but also had brains and a good heart and a Cinderella who managed to speak up and walk out on her evil stepmom and stepsisters without the prince coming to her aid. Looking back on how Cinderella was told when I was a kid, the prince and Cinderella were quite different.

ayyyyy.....:\'(

o well...about the additional tax on goods, i also think it wouldn\'t solve the problem. because you see, if tax will be levied on goods, prices of these goods will increase. if prices increase, the demand will decrease. decrease in demand will mean less profit, meaning little income for governemnt. THE ONLY REASON why these congressmen...the so-called \"honors\" of the batasan, is that they more income for the governemnt. NOT because they want to build roads and bridges from the kindness of their heart but because they need it to satisfy their WANTS. and there...it all goes back to ECONOMICS.
